KEMAMAN: Some 200 river terrapin hatchlings were released into the Kemaman River here to mark World Turtle Day, which falls on 23rd May every year.
The discovery of a healthy southern river terrapin population along Sungai Kemaman in Terengganu has ushered in hope for the much threatened species, especially in the state.
The river terrapins, aged 10-month-old, were hatched at the River Terrapin Conservation Project, a joint-project between Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS), the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) and the Tok Kapor Village Security and Development Committee in Binjai, Kemaman.
