Our press statement follows:
”Little Turtle Messenger,” a children’s storybook with a strong message on turtle conservation will be launched on the 3rd of October, 3 pm at MPH Mid Valley. Our guests of honour are Tan Sri Dr. Salleh Mohd. Nor and Dato’ Dr. Dionysius Sharma, two of Malaysia’s most eminent conservationists.
The book is written by Chan Eng Heng, illustrated by Tan Yi Sin and published by MPH Publishing. Chan is a retired university professor who has spent the last 25 years researching and conserving sea turtles while Tan is a young and talented freshly-graduated artist.
The first printing of the book was supported by WWF Malaysia, MPH Publishing and the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC). A Bahasa Malaysia version entitled ”Duta Kecil Penyu” is also available. Fully sponsored by WWF Malaysia, this version is distributed free to schoolchildren in 15 selected schools in Terengganu where TCC is carrying our turtle awareness programs.
Pre-launch sales of the book has exceeded 1,000 copies and a second printing has just been released. NGOs in Malaysia who are now using the book in their educational programs include WWF Malaysia, Reefcheck Malaysia, TAT Turtle Sanctuary, the Juara Turtle Project and HOPE (Help Our Penyu), amongst others. TCC plans to approach the Terengganu State Government to make the book available to all coastal schools in the state.”
