On 26th October, we were invited to conduct a Turtle Conservation Programme with the students of S.K. Tekek on Tioman Island, in conjunction with Berjaya Hotels and Resorts’ Tioman Island Clean Up Day (TICD) 2013.

A total of 50 students participated in programme. We were able to secure some financial assistance through Ms. Chuah of Sri KDU Secondary School, Kuala Lumpur. We purchased and distributed some biscuits and cookies to the students before the programme began. The students were given an introduction to sea turtles, terrapins and tortoises. After that, they were showed a short animation based on the children’s storybook, “Little Turtle Messenger.” After a short break, they were taught a short dance, courtesy of PTPI students of Sri KDU; and followed by a coloring session.

We would like to thank Abel Nelson Nang from Berjaya Hotels and Resorts for inviting TCS; Ms. Chuah and Sofia from Sri KDU Secondary School for the sponsorship and ideas for an ice-breaking dance which the students thoroughly enjoyed; and life member Lai Kow Lian for assisting in and helping take pictures of the programme.

P/S: If you have any ideas/ice-breaking activities/games that are suitable for school-going children, we would like to hear from you! Maybe you could write us a turtle poem/song which we could teach the children?
