Adopt and release your terrapin

Some updates about the Adopt-A-Terrapin Campaign that was launched almost 2 months ago, in conjunction with the Turtle Conservation Centre’s inaugural Terrapin Independence Day:

  • Out of the 99 river terrapins that we have released, 71 have been adopted so far. The adoptions are coming in slowly but steadily and we are glad that it is picking up some momentum. Thank you so much to our generous donors :)
  • We have arranged for two private terrapin releases since Terrapin Independence Day — one for TCC’s co-founder Tan Sri Salleh and another one for Thomas Cheong and Debbie Ding from Singapore.

We would like to invite you to invite your family, friends and colleagues to adopt a terrapin. If you collectively adopt at least 10 terrapins (or maybe 5 terrapins, we can surely discuss this on a case-by-case basis), we would be delighted to arrange a small private release ceremony for you and your friends.

For your information, we are now in the middle of arranging two private terrapin releases — one for a group of retired teachers from Penang, and another one for a group of buddhists from Selangor.

Please check out our Terrapin Adoption page, and if you are interested to adopt a terrapin (or if would like to help solicit adoptions from your family, friends and colleagues), please contact us. Each terrapin adoption will be furnished with a Certificate of Adoption that provides the microchip number of the terrapin, its name (optional), weight and shell length and width measurements when it is released.

P/S (7 May 2026): Since this post was written in 2009, our terrapin adoption programme has grown significantly, and we are deeply grateful for the support received over the years. Due to the increasing number of adoptions and limited manpower, we are unfortunately no longer able to provide adoption certificates containing specific terrapin measurements and microchip information. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support for our conservation work.
